2nd Lieutenant Maxwell Myers ’21, Military Intelligence
An International Relations major from Georgia, Maxwell is a Rotary Scholarship winner who will study at King’s College London, having turned down a Fulbright Scholarship to Sweden. As a high school student, Maxwell spent an exchange year in North Macedonia (formerly Macedonia) where, inspired by the 2016 popular revolt, he created an organization called “United by Love” which brought together Macedonians of Orthodox and Muslim Albanian backgrounds to promote positive interethnic relations, community action, and non-violence. He has presented some of his continued research on state-building in the post-Soviet Balkans at the 2020 Student World Affairs Conference. He has also presented work on atrocity risk in Cameroon at the JSAMAPS, which he helped run as one of the deputy Cadets-in-Charge in 2019. This spring he took HI 463 and worked with Dan Muncaster on the history of the Army’s anti-extremist policies. Maxwell has served as Cadet-in-Charge of the Cultural Affairs Seminar, which allowed him to direct numerous tutoring programs and events for Black and Brown cadets. This year, as the Brigade Academic Officer, he was the Cadet-in-Charge of all academic support and programming for the approximately 4,400 current cadets. With Dan Muncaster, he served as co-President of the Elevation Initiative, a program founded to mentor and prepare high-achieving cadets of color so that they are included, empowered, and better positioned for leadership roles at West Point. Beginning this fall, through King’s College London’s War Studies Department, Maxwell will pursue a Master’s in Conflict Resolution in Divided Societies. Before departing for England, he will complete an internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, which will allow him to focus on domestic counterterrorism.
