Our History
Since 2010, the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (RCHGS) has supported a mix of multidisciplinary coursework, innovative programming, research, and travel, all aligned with West Point’s focus on leadership and character.
The Center’s offerings cultivate a deep understanding of history, war, ethics, and responsibility, producing morally sophisticated and intellectually agile officers who are aware of the dynamics of genocide and better equipped to understand the nature of armed conflict. As a result, tomorrow’s leaders will be better prepared to deter and prevent future mass atrocities.
Our Mission
The mission of the Resnick Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies is to instill within current and future military leaders a sophisticated understanding of the Holocaust and other instances of genocide, and to inspire them to prevent future atrocities in their roles as military leaders.
The Center is housed within the Department of History and War Studies at the United States Military Academy and provides a critical space for research, teaching, and collaboration in interdisciplinary studies focused across three temporal frames: the past, the present, and the future.
The center is internationally recognized for the education it provides to future commissioned leaders so that they are prepared to recognize the early warning signs and to employ prevention techniques to stop a mass atrocity from occurring.

The Past
We study the Holocaust and other instances of genocide to understand the causes, events, and consequences of mass atrocites.
The Present
We examine contemporary risks and recognizew early wanrning signs of atrocites around the world.
The Future
We prepare and inspire leaders todeter and prevent mass atrocites wherever they may occur.
