2LT Samir Streatfield, USMA ‘19
Current Position: 2nd Lieutenant, US Army Corps of Engineers
Honors: 2020-21 Fulbright Scholar
2 LT Samir Streatfield is a 2019 graduate of West Point whom you’ve read about in previous newsletters. Samir took part in a range of CHGS programming and courses as an undergraduate. He branched Engineers, completed the Engineer Basic Officer Leader Course (EBOLC) in the fall of 2019, and just successfully made it through Ranger School in May 2020 (see photo to the right). With the support of the West Point Scholarship Program and the CHGS, he won a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Warwick in the UK. In late September, he will begin an MSc in Humanitarian Engineering. This degree program explores the technical side of humanitarian work in fields like water security, urban planning, and post-conflict reconstruction—all issues tied to atrocity prevention. Samir plans to focus his individual research on the removal of landmines across varied terrain and diverse societies in Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and Colombia. After one year abroad, he will return to the Army and resume his duties as an Engineer Officer, better equipped to deal with humanitarian crises and ready to bring essential expertise to the active duty force.
