Cadet Sebastien Morel ’22
On 16 December 2022, as the Corps of Cadets were streaming out to enjoy a well-deserved winter break, CDT Sebastien Morel was one of 14 cadets from the Class of 2022 who graduated from the Academy on 16 December. The Graduation and Commissioning Ceremony was more intimate than the one at Michie Stadium in the late spring when 1,014 of his classmates graduated, but the enthusiasm was still as electric for Sebastien, who spent an extra semester at West Point due to his Mormon mission. Sebastien, a Hedgeville, West Virginia native, is a National Honor Society member, Eagle Scout, and a military history major who became involved with the CHGS in his final two years at the Academy. His senior honors thesis on the U.S. advisor system during the Vietnam War earned him the 2022 Martin Beitler Ethics Essay Award and the Colonel Roger H. Nye Award. In XH415, he was an enthusiastic contributor to the Ukraine Situation Assessment for the United States’ European Command region described below. He commissioned as an Infantry officer and is now at his first duty station, Fort Benning, in Georgia.
